Mansfield Water Treatment Plant General Engineering Services

The City of Mansfield’s water treatment plant had major process upgrades last completed in the 1960s. The City hired KEM to develop a master plan for upgrades to the plant. As part of the plan, it was determined that the following systems need upgraded: gravity sand filter/underdrain replacement; filter piping gallery upgrades, including addition of filter-to-waste capabilities and automated backwashing; flocculator overhaul, including addition of vertical mixers; sedimentation basin overhauls, including new chain and flight collectors and effluent launders; rehabilitation of the influent flume to the flocculators; conversion from chlorine gas to sodium hypochlorite for disinfection; upgrades to the alum feed system; upgrades to the caustic feed system; moving the carbon feed system from the treatment plant to the raw water pump station; new raw water pumps; new high-service pumps; and electrical and instrumentation and control upgrades. Due to the compressed schedule of the project, KEM implemented a CMAR process so that a contractor could be selected and begin construction in a phased manner as the design progressed. Design has been completed for the entire project. Construction for Phase 1 of the improvements began at the end of 2021, and all improvements are scheduled to be completed by late 2024/early 2025.
