Fall 2023 – KEM Employee Spotlight

Fall 2023, KEM Newsletter

Adam Nolan

This fall quarter employee spotlight goes to Adam Nolan! Adam is an Assistant Project Manager for Construction. Mr. Nolan is responsible for keeping track of daily construction activities of contractors to assure that the project is being constructed per contract documents, plans, and specifications. Responsibilities under this scope include review of submittals to ensure materials being used by contractors are certified and meet contract specifications. Field sampling and testing of materials such as asphalt, concrete, and backfill materials, and to oversee proper placement of said materials and infrastructure.

He started working at KEM in the Fall of 2014. “As far as how it has impacted my life since, I would have to say that the family first atmosphere has made the biggest difference. KEM understands the real-life issues that we all face (good and bad) and it’s reassuring to know that if something comes up, the KEM family has your back.”

Adam enjoys facing the unique challenges that each project presents. “I am grateful to be surrounded by good, smart people who look out for each other and promote an open dialog for problem solving. There are conflicts in every project that must be resolved.”

Adam doesn’t necessarily have a favorite project because there are parts of every project that he enjoys. “I enjoy underground work because there are always conflicting utilities, and it’s fun to resolve those situations.” Adam likes any project that is challenging.

His wife of 24 years, Holly, and daughters, Riley and Emily, are the driving force behind his personal motivation. “Dads/husbands get up and go to work to provide for their family, that’s what they do.” he stated. When asked what his favorite thing about working at KEM is, he responded, “It’s simple, I am surrounded by smart/talented people and the resources that I need to be successful. I honestly believe that there is no problem that we cannot collectively solve.”

Most people probably wouldn’t know that Adam enjoys watching tennis. Roger Federer (retired 2022) is his favorite player, and he has woken up at 3AM (on several occasions) to watch him play in the Australia Open.

As far as hobbies and interests, the Nolan family is working on becoming efficient homesteaders on their eight acres. They have chickens, meat birds, ducks, and their youngest daughter raises 4H hogs. They garden, grow apples, and have had two unsuccessful attempts with honeybees. “I’ll catch a swarm, and right before winter they stop paying rent and bail…it’s a work in progress.”

Finally, he enjoys spending cold spring days watching his daughter play high school softball and reading Joe Pickett novels. (A Wyoming Game Warden who is always in over his head…) Adam plays an important role in the KEM family, and we are thankful to have him!
