Spring 2024 – Project Spotlight

Galena Realizes Substantial Growth

Galena, founded in 1809, is a quaint Village located at the confluence of the Little and Big Walnut Creeks in Delaware County and has recently experienced a period of substantial growth. During this period KEM has been providing development and construction engineering consultation to ensure private development complements Galena’s Master Plan and complies with Village requirements. Recently completed developments include the Communities at Galena, Estates at Blackhawk, Retreat at Dustin, and Primrose.

Currently Miller Farm is preparing to start construction on over 350 homes with multiple phases. Components of the projects include new roads and water, sanitary, and stormwater management to mitigate increased drainage from the developments. Miller Farm has a regional lift station designed to handle future tributary areas and a large diameter bore under the Big Walnut Creek to connect the lift station to Galena’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

KEM provides engineering consultation for all aspects of the projects, including the review of development plans, financial plans, construction plans, and specifications. In addition, KEM verifies that appropriate permits are obtained and performs construction engineering and resident project representation during construction of public improvements. KEM’s oversight helps to ensure that all public infrastructure turned over to the Village is designed and constructed per current standards.
